Youth Advisory Council's Administration...

The YAC shall operate administratively under the direction of the Youth Involvement Committee (representatives from the City Council and School Board). However, the YAC will elect its own officers, establish its own sub committees, plan its own program year, develop its budget, and write its own by-laws.

Membership Guidelines...

YAC Member Eligibility:

  • Middle school through high school
  • Students attending private and home school are also eligible to serve
  • Number of youth to be selected to the YAC - 78
  • Number of representatives per school is based on school population as follows:
    Student Population # of Reps.
    0 through 499 2
    Each Additional 500 Students 1

  • Demonstrated Leadership Skills & Ability
  • Community Involvement
  • Recommendations
  • Interest in YAC
  • Interview

Appointments...

  • Members serve for 1 year
  • Officers may serve for two years

Organization & Meeting Structure...

Officers shall be as follows:

  • President
  • President-Elect
  • Secretary/Treasurer
  • Parliamentarian
  • Historian
  • Caucus Representatives
  • Assistant Caucus Representatives
  • Committee Chairs to be appointed by the President
  • YAC Operating School Year (August-May)
  • YAC will meet on the 4th Monday of each month with committees as necessary (for approximately two-hours)
  • Mandatory Attendance with Excused Absences (per bylaws)
  • Open Meetings to the Public
  • Publish Agenda for Public
  • Televise Meeting on CCG-TV

Meetings shall be conducted as follows:

  1. Pledge of Allegiance
  2. Moment of Silence
  3. Call to Order
  4. Roll call
  5. Minutes Approval
  6. Items from the Audience
  7. President's Report and Direction for Caucus Breakouts
  8. Caucus Breakout Sessions
  9. Reconvene from Caucus Sessions
  10. Old Business
  11. New Business
  12. Staff Report
  13. Adjourn

Application/Application Process...

  • Each youth must complete an application
  • An application can be picked up at the middle or high school that the student attends, the City Manager's Office or click here.
  • Return applications to the City Manager's Office postmarked no later than April 15, 2010, or Fax to the City Manager’s Office at 706-653-4032.
  • YAC Officers and Advisors will review the applications. Those selected for interviews will be notified by mail in early June.
